The beautiful cloud forest of Monteverde
Monteverde is a little town located in the Tilaran Mountain Range, about 4 hours from San Jose on a bumpy road. Monteverde is considered a very important Eco touristic destiny in Costa Rica, and was once on the list of the 1000 places to visit on a life time. It is worldly known for its Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, which is one of the most important natural reserves in the area.
This little town was founded in 1950 by 11 Quakers from Alabama. The close by areas were previously habited by Costa Ricans who came with the golden fever, but the Quakers established on the region and began what was for a long time the Cheese Factory of Monteverde.
When you visit Monteverde and the main town Santa Elena, you will be experiencing one of the very few patches of cloud forest on the world, full of biodiversity and endemic flora and fauna. Also, it has one of the most beautiful views in Costa Rica, to the Nicoya Golf.
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the Puntarenas Province close to the touristic town of Santa Elena in Monteverde. The roads to visit the Reserve are very rustic, mostly made out of grave. It is a great place to enjoy the wonders of nature, surrounded by the lush green areas of the Cloud Forest. Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is home of one of the most beautiful woodlands of the country, where visitors are able to see orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines, and mosses. It has numerous crystal clear streams, and its large altitudinal gradient has helped produce an extremely high biodiversity.
